Synopsis:
In this beguiling new novel, Iris Rainer Dart again captivates readers with the same blend of poignancy, humor, and humanity that made us laugh and cry in her novel Beaches.
Funny, feisty Lily Benjamin has it all-as a top television comedy writer she juggles her demanding job, single motherhood, and a satisfying romance with a well-respected doctor.
But suddenly her life is turned upside down. Her relationships grow lackluster, her housekeeper ups and quits…and, tragically, her mentor and boss dies-leaving her at the mercy of her new boss.
Charlie Roth, known as the God of Jokes, is heartless, hilarious, and off-the-wall crazy…and with terrible problems of his own.
But when a new tragedy strikes Lily's life, Charlie's coldhearted exterior melts away, revealing the sensitive spirit of a man who understands heartache as no one else can…who helps Lily and her son rebuild their lives…and makes her believe that love can happen when you least expect it.

She wrote for The Sonny and Cher Show in the 1970s.She got the idea to write about a woman "loosely based on 'the no holds barred outrageous person' that she found in Cher. She wrote the book and lyrics for the 2009 stage musical, Laughing Matters, for the Pasadena Playhouse, California. Her next work was the Roundabout Theatre Broadway production of her new musical, The People in the Picture, which opened on April 28, 2011, and closed on June 19, 2011, and starred Donna Murphy.

She is currently married to Stephen Dart, a California businessman. She has two adult children, a son (by Wolf) and a daughter (by Dart), and two grandchildren.
